Packet Pickup & Race-day Registration
There will be two opportunities to pick up your packets before the race.  At Peak
Performance in Portland on Thursday, 9/18 between 5:00 & 7:00PM and at the NYC YMCA
on Friday, 9/19 between 5:00 & 7:00PM.  Remember to bring your USAT card - if you are a
member - and a photo ID.  If you forget your card, USAT requires that you sign a waiver and
pay the one day license fee of $10, no exceptions.  Sorry, there is no picking up packets for
others.  All members of  relay teams must be present at packet pickup.  Packet pick up will
also be able on race day at the registration table.  We encourage all athletes to have their
packets prior to race day if possible.  Registration will be open until the race is full. We will
only accept cash or check for registration sign ups on race day.  Registering on race day
will require an additional $10 donation to the NYC YMCA for this late opportunity.  Race-day
Reg' and packet pickup closes at 9:30AM.

Transition Area
Opens up at 8AM Saturday morning.  As a courtesy to all athletes, you will not be allowed
back into the transition area to retrieve your bike and belongings until after the last person
has finished the race.  This is for security, safety and give you an opportunity to cheer for
your fellow athletes. This will be at approximately 12:00 PM.  You should gather up all your
gear and your bike and exit the transition.  You must exit through one check area and we will
be checking your body mark numbers with your bike number, so keep all numbers on you
and with you until after leaving transition.

Directions to Mainiac & Transition
Transition is located at the public parking area at Gil Boucher Park in Biddeford
Pool.  Entrance to this area is directly across the street from
Hattie's Restaurant which is
located at the east end of Mile Stretch Road in Biddeford Pool.  The immediate road to
transition off Mile Stretch is called Gilbert Pl.  This road is gravel and splits a few yards
down.  Stay left, on Beach House Road into transition.  These two gravel roads will be
closed to all traffic on race day.  They are both part of the bike course.

Parking
Parking at Biddeford Pool Beach area for the race will be available on a first-come, first-
served basis. There are five parking areas designated for race day.  Three are nearer the
transition area and two are further away.  After the three areas are filled all event traffic will
be diverted to the two further parking lots.  If you are required to park in the further parking
lots, we will allow racers to unload bikes at the intersection of Bridge St. and Mile Stretch
Road where you will then need to ride or walk your bike and gear to transition - about one
mile away.  We strongly encourage arriving early.  We also suggest getting dropped-off at
the race site or carpooling.  Please make sure you allow adequate time for parking-- we
want everyone to have plenty of time for pre-race preparations!  Parking attendants will be
ready to go at 7:30AM.

Mainiac Race Day
Once you've parked, make your way to body marking, located next to the transition area at
Gil Boucher Park - this will be the first thing you do on race morning.  Volunteers will body
mark you with your number and age before you proceed to the transition area. Next, head to
bike inspection.  Then you will be allowed into the transition area to rack your bike and to
setup your gear.  You must wear the color-coded swim cap issued at registration and be
ready to start with your swim wave that will be given to you at packet pickup.  All athletes
need be out of the transition area by 9:45 AM and should be at the swim start for a race-day
reminders meeting.  The first Swim Wave will start at 10:00 AM.  Typical ocean water
temperature in September  is 62 degrees.  Wet suits are available for rental or purchase
from Peak Performance and triathletes are encouraged to wear them.  There will be
lifeguards, boats and kayaks on the swim course to assist you if needed. The SWIM course
is a counter clockwise rectangular 1/4 mile swim.

After completing the swim, you will transition to the 14.7 mile bike course. You must buckle
your helmet before you take your bike off the rack, and keep it buckled until you re-rack your
bike.  Cape Able Bike Shop will be patrolling the course to aid with any mechanical
problems. Cape Able Bike Shop will be on the scene to do everything they can to make sure
you finish the race. No roads are completely closed to traffic.  It is your responsibility to know
the race course, to follow the race officials'  instructions, and to observe all USAT rules. ALL
TURNS WILL BE CLEARLY MARKED AND WILL BE MANNED BY VOLUNTEERS AND
POLICE OFFICERS. PAY ATTENTION!! Course maps are available on the website, www.
mainaictri.com. Please use caution and brake when cycling downhill -- you will pick up
speed very quickly!  Always stay to the right of the roadway and do not cross the center line.
Please dismount from your bike at the marked location before entering the transition area.

After the bike you will transition to the 3.2 mile run.  Please remember to wear your race
number on the front at all times. There will be one aid station on the loop out-and-back
course.  The aid station will supply WATER and HEED.  No roads are completely closed to
traffic.  It is your responsibility to know the race course, to follow the race officials'
instructions, and to observe all USAT rules. ALL TURNS WILL BE CLEARLY MARKED
AND WILL BE MANNED BY VOLUNTEERS.  RUNNERS WILL RUN ON the right side of
the road, out and back. This lane will be closed to traffic. Do not cross the center line, as
cars will use the other lane for travel.

What if the surf is too rough?
If the surf is seen to be too rough at start time we will switch to a duathlon race - a run-bike-
run.  Basically, you will do a shortened run in place of the swim and thus you will do a run,
then the normal bike and then the normal run.

Relay Teams
As mentioned earlier, ALL members of a relay team must be present together to pick up
their race packet. All relay team members must get body-marked together. For numbers, the
swimmer will wear the color-coded swim cap, the biker will fasten the bike frame number to
his/her bike, and adhere the helmet number to his/her helmet. The runner will wear the official
bib number to cross the finish line. Swimmers will exit the water and will hand tag the biker in
the RELAY EXCHANGE Area. Then, the cyclist will proceed to his/her bike rack. Following
the bike, the cyclist will rack their bike, then proceed to the RELAY EXCHANGE  Area to
perform a hand tag with the runner who will then proceed with the run. NO RELAY TEAM
MEMBERS ARE TO WAIT IN THE TRANSITION AREA. YOU WILL Tag IN THE RELAY
EXCHANGE area ONLY
